George W Bush favours a one-state solution to the conflict. So do I. A two-state solution would entail ethnic-cleansing and only add to the causes of violence. Unfortunately, however, Bush and Blair see no useful resemblance between Northern Ireland and Israel/Palestine. While they advocate the one-state solution for N. Ireland, they push for the two-state solution in the Holy Land, now based on Sharon's 'disengagement' plan. This plan would mean ethnic-cleansing in Palestine had not been consigned to the 20th century - it is probable that some adult Gaza settlers, who have lived there all their lives, will reject the bribes (sorry, compensation payments) and refuse to move. And then there's the West Bank. Enforced ethnic-cleansing is wrong, whether it be of Arab or Jew, Protestant or Catholic - it only adds to people's grievances.
