Oh-oh. Guido reports that the Mad Bunting has lasted but six weeks as director of the thinkbubble Demos - she has 'resigned' and is reportedly returning to the Guardian. This might be good news for Demos but it's a blow for us Guardian readers.
Not that Bunting stopped writing articles during her six-week adventure. She had managed to produce three articles, since her September 4 appointment. At the time I wondered why she was continuing with her old job just as she was starting a whole new career. Maybe the powers-that-be at Demos wondered the same.
Or maybe, you never know, someone at Demos read my blog entry about a Madeleine Bunting article on Benedict XVI, in which she listed six quotations she attributed to the pope but none of which were true - three were quotations from corporate documents of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, three were misquotations of Cardinal Ratzinger. All were chosen to paint Benedict in a negative light. I complained to the Guardian but was ignored. If it is a characteristic of Bunting to misrepresent facts, Demos is better off without her.
