We have values, they have an ideology

Will someone please tell Tony Blair to stop mispronouncing the word 'ideology'?  He uses it a lot but seems to believe that the proper pronunciation, or at least the British RP one, is with a short 'i', as in idiot.  But ideology has a long 'i', as in idol.  How come Blair's advisers fail to tell him that, every time he mispronounces the word in international press conferences, he is bringing Britain's educational system into disrepute?  Whatever happened to 'education, education, education'?

It's absolutely deliberate. Fairly early on, Blair/Campbell/Mandelson decided to rebrand ideology to rhyme with idiocy rather than idealism as part of their attempt to make it appear something bad and stupid rather than noble and uplifting. To my knowledge, however, you are the first blogger or journalist who has ever picked up on it.

Actually it can be pronounced either way. Check the dictionary.
